The acting in this film was superb. Overall the film could have been far better with more scenes and better light conditions, the film was too dark much of the time and the soundtrack difficult to hear due to bass fuzziness. .

We must recognise all weir has done right with this film. As a naval historian i can pick a few technical nits, sure, and as a patrick o'brian fan know that this is not his story, but no other film to date has come nearly as close as this to depicting the reality of life and action on a warship of 2 centuries ago. Beautifully paced, visually stunning, full of memorable moments and awesome action, it will become a classic - in time. .

I read a review that said this movie had no femme appeal except for russell crowe and was a "man's movie" no way! this 100% female adored the story line, the costumes, the history. Anyone into antiques, history, and vintage will probably thoughly enjoy this very well executed film! director peter weir is one of my favorites as well. I was just waiting for this to come out on cd & bought it the first day it was available!.
